The Importance of Traceability in Speciality Coffee

Why Traceability Matters to Us

For us, traceability is the fundamental element of speciality coffee. Not only does it allow us to ensure that the coffee we roast is of the highest possible quality, it also helps us to build relationships grounded in sustainability, equity, and transparency.

We know where, how, and by whom the coffees were grown, processed, and transported, giving us oversight every step of the way.

In other words, thanks to traceability, we can confidently purchase a coffee knowing it has made a positive impact on both people and planet, while also ensuring that producers are receiving a fair price.

Working With Values-Aligned Producers

Every producer we interact with is committed to producing exceptional quality coffee whilst positively contributing to their community and environment.

We recently changed up our seasonal Oast Single Origin Espresso to a natural from Zambian producers Mount Sunzu. We were drawn to them not only by the fact that their coffee tastes fantastic, but also their ambitious commitments to local ecology and the welfare of their employees (read more about it here).

Conclusion: Creating Value Beyond the Cup

It’s working with producers such as Mount Sunzu that makes our work so fulfilling -  knowing that with every flat white and retail bag sold, we are contributing to an enterprise that is truly making a difference.
