Meet the Team

At Garage Coffee, we're a small team with a lot of passion. We believe in great coffee, from the farm all the way to your cups. Have a read below and get to know the team...

What’s your name and what do you do at Garage?

Hey, I'm Luke and I'm the Owner & Founder of GC. Or MD. Or whatever abbreviation you like. I'm usually found in the roastery or bothering everyone in the shops.

What’s your favourite thing about working in specialty coffee & at Garage?

Coffee is so versatile and interesting, there truly is nothing like it! To see the journey from farm to cup is incredible, and to work with great people who share my passion for beans is great.

What do you do when you’re not thinking about beans?

Spend time with my Miniature Schnauzer, Pepper.

Fun fact?

At university, I was the chairman of the Food & Wine Society.

What’s your name and what do you do at Garage?

I’m Alice and I am head of Business Development & Training woo!

What’s your favourite thing about working in specialty coffee & at Garage?

I have loved getting to know more about hitting that sweet spot with regards to the different recipes for each coffee- it is very exciting when you know how to get the best out of the beans! But also learning the stories behind the people involved in the whole process; from the people at the farms to the owners of coffee shops, this is very much a people industry and it is fascinating to learn what led them to where they are.

What do you do when you’re not thinking about beans?

I am also a performer so enjoy working on different creative projects- theatre, singing, directing etc. When I’m not at Garage I teach acting to young people too which is definitely a huge passion!

Fun fact?

My party trick is fitting inside one of those laundry/shopping bags, though my friends are all pretty sick of seeing it by now.

What’s your name and what do you do at Garage?

Hello! My name is Rosie and I am Head of Food & Retail for Garage. I manage our shops in Canterbury and Whitstable & manage all things edible!

What’s your favourite thing about working in specialty coffee & at Garage?

I love working for a small business as we are such a close team! Everyday is different in this ever changing industry. I usually start the day with a cortado, then follow that with a filter of some sort. My faves are fruity naturals!

What do you do when you’re not thinking about beans?

Besides dreaming of beans, I’m a cat mum to a little ginger called Poppy! I really enjoy CrossFit and running to keep me fit and burn off all the cake I eat. I also run a little cake business from home where I make celebration cakes, cupcakes and brownies!

Fun fact?

When I was 10 I wrote an acrostic poem about the pets on Blue Peter and sent it in, and they sent back the sought after Blue Peter badge!

What’s your name and what do you do at Garage?

I’m James and I am Garage's Business Development Manager.

What’s your favourite thing about working in specialty coffee & at Garage?

Having worked for Garage Coffee for a short time I’ve already learnt to appreciate quality coffee and now have the skills required to make great coffee. I enjoy working in a small team and relaxed working environment. My favourite drink is an oat Flat White and a cheeky batch brew! Working by the seaside in the summer is wonderful and VERY BUSY... I’ve had so many wonderful comments from customers about our coffee & yummy cake that I’ve lost count!

What do you do when you’re not thinking about beans?

Most of my spare time is spent looking after my 3-year-old daughter and enjoying time with friends and family! I also spend time gardening and chilling in my hot tub!!

Fun fact?

I got married in Disney World Florida & have an imaginary friend called Larry!

What’s your name and what do you do at Garage?

My name is Sam and I am Head of Coffee. My main reason for being around is to answer all the big coffee questions and make sure we're putting out really good cups of coffee into the world - from the roast to the coasts.

What’s your favourite thing about working in specialty coffee & at Garage?

I love a good filter, either batch brew or V60 with something with some real floral or fruity notes. I'm really excited to be working with a close group of people who are passionate about coffee, and deliver on what Garage has already built - getting more single origins into the hands of the people of Kent.... And beyond.

What do you do when you’re not thinking about beans?

In my free time I am usually walking my dog or hanging out friends, doing some sort of board game or DnD. Currently limited to 6 people max.

Fun fact?

I'm pretty flexible (I haven't tried in a few months but I can get a leg behind my head) and I can do a decent Haka if the occasion calls for it.

Contact Kezia

What’s your name and what do you do at Garage?

I’m Kezia and I'm the Assistant Manager of the Canterbury store.

What’s your favourite thing about working in specialty coffee & at Garage?

My favourite type of coffee is a fruity Kenyan filter. I like working in specialty coffee as we work in a small, friendly team and get a thorough understanding/training in the product we serve. This is developed further through spending time in the roastery to visiting coffee festivals.

What do you do when you’re not thinking about beans?

When I’m not in the cafe I like to go and find new places to visit along the coast.

Fun fact?

I can’t jump but thankfully it doesn’t affect my coffee making ability.

What’s your name and what do you do at Garage?

My name is Sophie and I am Assistant Manager at Garage Whitstable.

What’s your favourite thing about working in specialty coffee & at Garage?

I really enjoy learning that all beans are different and have their own flavour notes! I can now appreciate the difference between a fruity undertone and a more chocolatey/nutty blend- like the maypole which is my favourite as an iced long black! Getting to know our regular customers and see all the wonderful dogs of Whitstable is also a highlight!

What do you do when you’re not thinking about beans?

I play football in my spare time and am part of a local women's team which I really enjoy. I also like drawing, painting and playing instruments...badly!

Fun fact?

At home I have a lot of animals, including chickens, tortoises and a parrot amongst many others!
